What to expect
Your annual exam at Bloom starts with a real conversation, not just a clipboard. We’ll talk through any changes in your health, cycle, sexual activity, or family history before moving into the physical exam, which may include a breast exam, pelvic exam, and — depending on your age and history — a pap smear and/or HPV screening. We explain each step before we do it, and you’re always in control of the pace.
Beyond the exam itself, your annual visit is a chance to address anything on your mind: contraception, irregular periods, low libido, pelvic pain, mental health, or general preventive health questions. We also review recommended screenings for your age group, from cholesterol and diabetes checks to mammogram referrals, so your whole-body health stays on track, not just your reproductive health.
Most exams take 30–45 minutes, and we never rush the parts that matter. If something needs follow-up — an abnormal pap, a new symptom, a referral — we’ll walk you through next steps clearly before you leave.
Who it's for
Frequently asked questions
How often do I need a pap smear?
Guidelines vary by age and history — generally every three years starting at 21, or every five years with HPV co-testing starting at 30. We’ll confirm the right schedule for you.
Do I need an annual exam if I'm not sexually active?
Yes. Annual visits cover much more than sexual health, including screenings, contraception counseling, and general preventive care.
What should I bring to my appointment?
A list of current medications, any questions or symptoms you’d like to discuss, and your insurance card. We’ll handle the rest.
