What to expect
From the moment you find out you’re expecting, our team becomes your partner in pregnancy. Your first prenatal visit typically happens around 8 weeks and includes a full health history, confirmatory ultrasound, and time to talk through your hopes and concerns for the months ahead. From there, you’ll settle into a rhythm of visits — monthly through 28 weeks, every two weeks through 36 weeks, and weekly until delivery — each one focused on your health and your baby’s growth.
We coordinate all standard prenatal screenings, including first- and second-trimester labs, genetic screening options, the anatomy ultrasound around 20 weeks, and the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes. If anything about your pregnancy shifts from low-risk to higher-risk, we can seamlessly bring in Dr. Marchetti, our maternal-fetal medicine specialist, without you having to start over with a new practice.
When it’s time to deliver, you’ll do so at one of our partner Austin-area hospitals, supported by a provider you already know and trust — not an on-call stranger. After delivery, we see you for a comprehensive postpartum visit and remain available for the physical and emotional adjustments of the fourth trimester.
Who it's for
Frequently asked questions
When should I schedule my first prenatal visit?
We recommend calling as soon as you get a positive pregnancy test. Most first visits are scheduled around 8 weeks, but we’re happy to see you sooner if you have questions or concerns.
Can I choose between an OB and a midwife?
Yes. Many of our patients see both Dr. Whitfield or Dr. Marchetti and our certified nurse midwife, Jamie Ostrander, throughout pregnancy, giving you flexibility in your birth approach.
What hospital will I deliver at?
We have delivery privileges at several Austin-area hospitals. We’ll discuss options and help you choose the best fit during your second-trimester visits.
What if my pregnancy becomes high-risk?
Dr. Marchetti, our maternal-fetal medicine specialist, is part of our in-house team, so you can transition to specialized care without leaving the practice.
