What to expect
A “high-risk” pregnancy simply means you or your baby may benefit from closer monitoring — it doesn’t mean something is wrong. Led by Dr. Sofia Marchetti, a fellowship-trained maternal-fetal medicine specialist, our high-risk program offers more frequent visits, advanced ultrasound imaging, and specialized testing tailored to your specific situation, whether that’s twins, a pre-existing condition like diabetes or hypertension, a history of pregnancy loss, or a fetal anomaly identified on screening.
Your care plan is built around you. Some patients see Dr. Marchetti for the entire pregnancy; others split care between her and Dr. Whitfield, using high-risk visits for specialized monitoring while staying connected to their primary OB. We also coordinate directly with maternal-fetal medicine specialists at Austin-area hospitals when a delivery requires a higher level of neonatal support.
Throughout, we prioritize clear communication. Being told your pregnancy is high-risk can be frightening — our job is to translate the medical complexity into a plan you understand and feel confident in, every step of the way.
Who it's for
Frequently asked questions
Will I need more appointments?
Yes, typically. High-risk pregnancies are monitored more closely, which may mean additional ultrasounds, labs, or non-stress tests depending on your specific risk factors.
Can Dr. Marchetti deliver my baby?
In many cases, yes. For some complex cases, we coordinate delivery at a hospital with a higher level neonatal intensive care unit, and Dr. Marchetti stays involved in your care plan throughout.
Do I have to switch practices if I become high-risk mid-pregnancy?
No. Because Dr. Marchetti is part of our team, we can adjust your care plan in place, without disrupting the relationship you’ve already built with us.
